GARAGEKUNGEN´s   PLAYGROUND

ENJOY SOME SUMMER PICTURES...
1999

The idea of this side is to mix some, maybe fun, moments. Some sort of describing text might go with them as well...

04 Mall i Cupertino, fräckaste bilen på parkeringen framifrån m.JPG (10611 bytes) I believed it would be a quite winter ( building a new house ), but far from it...
My wife works at Ericsson ( phone company - You know...) safe job at a big company... but one day everything changed - the whole unit was cut off !!!
Every one was offered a place instead, but how fun was that...
Why do I show this Cadillac to this text ?
Well, just for the hell of it, did my wife answered a advert in the company paper, and three weeks later did we ( my wife and I ) get off the plane in...

San Jose´, CALIFORNIA. ( About 80 km = 50 miles south of San Francisco in the middle of Silicon Valley )
Just to make sure she was the right person, and let us try if we feel comfortable in the area, they invited us for a week. This was my first trip to USA.
Back home the first snow just arrived ( 4 inch of it ) - but here You practice T-skirt and sunny sky !!!

05 Mall i Cupertino, fräckaste bilen på parkeringen bakifrån m.JPG (10494 bytes)    While she was stuck at the company the first two days, I was driving around in search of nice speed shops. Thank God for the GPS never lost digital map display. I probably still would have going around in circles without it !!!
The real nice Caddy I cought at MALL in Cupertino. The owner broke in to a smile when he heard we were from Sweden.
"- You have a lot of nice cars there !"
He knew some people from Sweden, cruising people, so that was pretty cool. I asked if there were any car events going on - but he just laught, and said, in the springtime it´s all coming, not now - it´s WINTER...

Kör så det ryker.JPG (7330 bytes) Writing this in the middle of the winter, it´s easy to put in a couple of extra pics - just to warm up the hart a little...
Watch this - this is Andreas putting on the show at the last race 1999 at Tullinge Raceway Stockholm, Sweden.
Let´s hope we got a lot more of this in the future...

Många på plats m.JPG (6737 bytes) Stockholm Cup #4 invited us with it´s best weather, the best track, and a looot of cars. To stand in the line up queue was a pain in... - but one should not complain about a big starting field. But we were surprised when they started a bracket race, because the limited time for test runs - and the club SSRO doesn´t support bracket ( we think street racing comes from simultaneous start - first across finish line wins ).
Personally I have nothing against bracket, but I prefer pro - tree start with simple rules.

Peter Hoffmans läckra Cobra m.JPG (10248 bytes) Among a lot of others, Peter Hoffman and his super nice Shelby Cobra replica was there. This daily driven car is just as fast as it looks like. roughly 2200 LB combined with 406" CSB hooked to a bottle can´t possibly be slow...( 10.577 @ 211.4 kmh = 131.4 mph )
With one Cup win and good points from the other races, he had a theoretical chance of winning the Cup. In that case one bad -56 had to be eliminated pretty soon - not likely to happened...

Många på plats trängsel m.JPG (6857 bytes) The number of participators was so many, we had a hard time finding room for every one in our class ( at the ordinary areas ). Probably due to most of the new comers were not used to the customs and parked some here and some there. Many took the last chance of racing before winter will force us to rest. We were hoping for big starting fields in all classes - but unfortunately most of the " newcomers" was racing bracket.
Any way we had a great day, a lot of racing, some spare parts all over the strip - and the personal was doing ( in my eyes ) BEST JOB I EVER SEEN !!!
BIG THANKS TO ALL PERSONAL FOR THIS YEAR !!! You should have received the biggest prize at the ceremony !

Dagens två snabbaste bilar finalstart m.JPG (7426 bytes) In our class ( radial tires - no limits ) it came down to the two fastest cars in the final. Jocke Klangebo, in his black badaz -56 Chevy, and Sten Skånsjö in his lean red Camaro from -84.
Jocke had on his way to the final showed every one that he was the man to beat ( taking care of Bosse, Peter Hoffman and Hasse Magnusson in his red Corvette). The only thing not working his way so far:
- he still wanted the clock to stop before the magic 10.500 sec and now remains only one more try 1999...
Sten ( and our crew ) on the other hand, had a "easy" job this time. A solo pass first. Then Andreas in the Chevelle ( unfortunately the blower was going to hard on the engine, with a major failure as a result ) in the second round - he probably would have lost it any way when Sten manage to cut his personal best down to 10.313 @ 222.9 kmh ( 138.5 mph ). Once again a solo pass in third round, before final...
Just like the last Cup final, Black Chevy -56 in the left line, and red Camaro -84 in the right. This time Jocke put every thing on one wild card: 3000 rpm at stall ( 540 cid, 3965 LB and radials ) - and it worked !!!
1.57 sec 60-foot time, plus 8 hundreds faster in the reaction time - he was way ahead this time...

Dagens två snabbaste bilar m.JPG (8682 bytes) This is how it would have been, if Jocke would have had his way with things - Big Black Mean Shoe Box open his jaws around the disgusting little new red Camaro...

- But the winner is settled by the finish line !

Dagens två snabbaste bilar med besättning m.JPG (9538 bytes) Here You can see BOTH winner of today.
Jocke said he felt  like a winner thou he lost the final run with just THREE THOUSANDS OF A SECOND !!!
But what went wrong then - nothing !!! He won the Stockholm Cup 1999 ( congratulations ), but more important ( as far as I know ), he made a new personal record of 10.369 @ 220.0 kmh ( 136.7 mph ) Wow - at last under 10.50 sec.
Sten ( well happy holding his time slip ) also manage to cut his earlier record, now down to 10.286 @ 223.22 kmh ( 138.73 mph ) and by that squeezing him in at a third place in the Stockholm Cup 1999.
This must have been the toughest radialtyre final of the first millennium - so, now we gearing for the next millennium.
To all of You, who still haven´t been to Tullinge Raceway trying out the racing, we just want to say:
- Come on now !  We have a real good time out there...

These were the two for the real final.JPG (9844 bytes) At last, - it´s time for the event of the year: Power European street finals 1999. At Saturday the weather was great and qualifying went pretty smooth.
In "our" class ( radial tyre - no limits ) it was just two cars that went really fast.
As #1 in qualifying was a very nice guy from Denmark, Kent H Pedersen from Randers ( who we already meet in last years competition ), showing up in a beautiful 1968 stock-a-like Chevy Camaro SS ( even stock radio in it !!! ), equipped with a nitrous feed BIG block engine doing a best ET of 10.308 sec.
As #2 in qualifying was my friend Sten Skaansjoe in his -84, 406 Chevy nitrous eating SB equipped, Camaro with a best ET of 10.405 sec.
Unfortunately Kents car was too much stock-a-like ( no safety cages ) and he wasn´t up to date with the safety regulations of the race. This resulted in a suspension for him...We felt sorry for him.
On this photo he is coming over to us, whishes us good luck with the competition. We really hope meeting this nice Danish racer in the future ( just as long as he isn´t even faster than...).

Pelle smokin the Shelby .JPG (9667 bytes) Here are two pictures from Street Finals -99.
On this first one is Pelle who came to Mantorp for his first 11 sec run...
But how we all tried and helped him, and he was really going for it, the times just went worse and worse... After a long day the gearbox just didn´t take it any more - but there were a lot of people admiring the green Shelby with the gooood sound...

Nightrace smokin burnout .JPG (11257 bytes) Here a picture of what really makes this race something special - THE NIGHTRACE - this is just as close to " Good Old Street Racing " as you can come...
The picture speaks for it self !!!

Chevelle with blower on top of 468 cid make some horse power....JPG (9536 bytes) SSRO showing what is all about at a " family day ", 12 of June 1999, invited by Mc Donald's and ICA-Kvantum ( food store ). Goran, owner of ICA-Kvantum, let us have a 70 meters long road to play on.
Andreas ( owner and miss-user of a Chevelle ) showed both visitors and staff how we think a real car will run. And run it did !!!
- Goran ( smiling like a kid ) was more than pleased by it´s Performa's after one of the runs in the passenger seat...

Johans Tech advise...JPG (14635 bytes) Everybody around knows Johan Hedman is good at making his car go fast ( last year he won his class ). But I didn´t know, he is such a mechanic, he doesn´t need the winter ( like the rest of us ) to prepare his  " rocket " for next season.
Now I caught him just after drivers meeting at Tulling raceway 5 of June 1999, and obviously he just found out this is first race day of the year...

In the back of a Nova. JPG (9556 bytes) As everybody knows there are several ways of preventing the rear door from slamming on to your head. I found this elegant solution at Tulling 5 of June 1999.
- Just make it stand, simple as that...

Here they are: Andreas, Jocke, Bosse and Stellan parked in front of Mc Donalds.JPG (12159 bytes) SSRO members have some discount at Mc Donald's Gustavsberg.
Just to let them know who we are, I arrange a small meeting at there restaurant.
The 29 of May some of the members showed up smiling along with there cars, my self I lended out the brand new family TV and video in order to show some tapes.
Even thou the forecast said it should be shit weather, the sun was shining most of the time and a lot of guests took the opportunity to take a close look at our " toys ".

Stellan showing his best....JPG (9342 bytes) When it came to our little show the fence was packed.
We had permission from the restaurant to this, but don´t try this on regular visits...
