The very first Class: 3 students:

- 1 absolute beginner,
- 1 amateur.
- 1 professional hotrod builder for more than 20 years...

Is it possible to have these guys at the same time ??? For the same education... and will the result be the same ?!?

Tell you the truth - we had a lot of fun and everybody has said they enjoyed the class very much.

I think the pictures speak for them self.

All Aluminum 1941 Willys Coupe

   3 students / week:

Here we start with an original body to measure from, a pile of Aluminum sheets and the door openings already in place.

I have one picture from each day of Step-2 Class.

20020507 Aluminiumen inlastad okm.JPG (10039 bytes)
01 Ron and Lazze talking about the rear quarter panel okm.JPG (11678 bytes) As everybody already are familiar with the technique, they start with their pieces right away.
18 See how it fit okm.JPG (16562 bytes) It is always interesting to watch when new pieces are put together. You can actually see how the car is growing in front of your eyes.
15 Check the shape okm.JPG (13604 bytes) To make sure the shape is right we use templates. We hold them on the outside of the body and check the contour is right.
17 End of 1st week Mickey and Ron okm.JPG (14020 bytes) Here are two of the students from first week, Mickey Galloway, CA and Ron Middaugh AZ. The third student Randy Coverstone, CA had to leave little early and are missing in the picture.
20020521 Lazze svetsar ihop det som går, 2 okm.JPG (10579 bytes) In the days between the Classes Lazze and I prepaired for the next week. We don´t make any pieces, just put them together.
05 Checking parts at the table okm.JPG (14461 bytes) New students, new pieces. Here they have started making the roof.
27 Drill the roof in okm.JPG (13902 bytes) Second day and it was time to put the roof in. It takes a great deal of time just to trim it in place.
35 Putting clecos in rear left fender okm.JPG (17751 bytes) Here they have made some pieces for the rear fenders, and it was time to start putting them together.
06 Brad and Lazze checking front fender pieces okm.JPG (18590 bytes) The students have worked so fast, we almost run out of parts to make. Here they start making pieces for the front fenders... Due to the higher (than expected) speed in producing the pieces for the Willys. We now know there will only be a total of 4 weeks of Aluminum Willys Step-2 Class.
65 End of day Willys vf okm.JPG (11758 bytes) This is how far the students got in 2 Weeks of Step-2 Class. There is no doubt about what kind of car this is going to become...

05 Checking to the car okm.JPG (16672 bytes) After the summer, in September 2002, it was time for another session of Step-2 Classes. We thought it should had taken at least 4 weeks to build an Aluminum Willys Coupe body.
There was just enough parts left for one more week... The front end and trunk lid.
22 Making tempelet okm.JPG (17363 bytes) Measuring is very important for a good result. We put tapes over every place to keep track of them.
26 Put pieces together okm.JPG (12434 bytes) Day 3 and things start coming in place. The neighbors followed the buildup with great interest. No problem at all...
15 Bob try it on okm.JPG (20043 bytes) Once we had the lift in place, it was much easier for the students to have a good working position.
40 Trying trunklid on okm.JPG (13989 bytes) Trunk lid was last on the menu. Much harder work to do then it seems to at the first thought.
60 End of Class okm.JPG (13655 bytes) All pieces are done to the Willys body, the front and hood still need to be welded together. All in all - 3 weeks (3 different classes = 15 days) 3 students in each class, was all it took to make the first ever All Aluminum 1941 Willys Coupe in USA.

This was FUN !!!
